Sustainablity on transportation policy Ankara: evulation of Batıkent-Kızılay subway on the point of social sustainable transportation policies

Since 1970?s, the concept of ?sustainable? , entered world literature with Brundtland report in 1987, has came to order with increasing in the sensibility for environment and begun to be discussed at transportation area concurrently. At this point, sustainable transportation politics has been developed. Especially, social principles of sustainable transportation politics (equality, accessibility, health, security, individual responsibility, integrated planning) is essential in terms of increasing in societies? urban life quality. Ankara Batıkent-Kızılay subway is explicated within context of social principles of sustainable transportation politics at this thesis. Social principles of sustainability , which are equality, accessibility, health, security, and individual responsibility has been evaluated according to questionnaire results. Then integrated planning principle has been evaluated through urban plans and transportation planning studies applied after 1970?s in Ankara. At the result of this thesis, it is came into scene that transportation demands and satisfaction levels of women, person with low income, people living in suburbs is differentiated. Also it is seen that difficulties in access to subway station has negative effects on quality of urban life and sustainability. Particularly, applications related with subway business is a determining factor to ensure people health and security. This thesis will be guide for future applications and make a contribution for increasing in quality of urban life in Ankara which has newly railway public transportation experience.
