The effect of vitamin D level on disease activity and inflammatory parameters in patients wi̇th ankylosing spondylitis

The Effect of Vitamin D Level on Disease Activity and Inflammatory Parameters in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis Objective: The aim of this study was to search the investigation of the effect of vitamin D level on disease activity and inflammatory parameters in patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Methods: In our study, a total of 18-65 age group diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis 83 patients were included. Those with vitamin D levels below 20 were were obtained, a BASDAI questionnaire was completed to evaluate their physical examination, rheumatological examination, ankylosing spondylitis disease activity, BASFI to evaulate functional activity, and BASMI questionnaire to evaulate spinal mobility. The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESH), C-reactive protein (CRP) and 25(OH)D values were routinely measured from the blood of the patients. Results: A total of 83 patients, 37 women and 46 men, whose age range was 18-65 years, were included in the study. The mean age of the patients was calculated as (47.29±9.440), body mass index as (2.02±0.796), number of children as (2.37±1.512) and diagnosis period as (11.06±7.739) years. There was no statistically significant difference between vitamin D value and BASDAI survey results, BASFI survey results and BASMI survey results (p>0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant effect of vitamin D level on disease activity in patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. Key words: Ankylosing Spondylitis; Disease Activity; Vitamin D
