Abstract (EN)

This study investigated the effect of conflict resolution training on the students? usage of conflict resolution strategies with their friends and nonfriends. As a secondary focus, it examined whether the training would make any difference between genders in the use of the strategies. 67 eight grade middle school students participated in the study. The experimental group that received the treatment consisted of 35 students (14 girls, 21 boys). There were 32 students ( 17 girls, 15 boys) in the control group. The data were collected by pre-test, post-test and interview. In order to analyse the pre-tests and post-tests, SPSS ( Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for Windows 10.0 program was used. The interviews were analysed descriptively. The findings revealed that the conflict resolution training is effective in changing the destructive strategies used by the students into constructive ones. Besides, there was no statistically significant difference between genders in the use of the strategies with respect to training except for ? Unable to Make a Decision? conflict. Based on these findings it is concluded that in order to grow up mentally healthy children and live in peace such conflict resolution programs should be put into the curriculum by integrating them into academic courses such as English in Turkey, as well.
