Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to examine the relationship between parental behaviors and problem behaviors in children. Research data were collected from the parents of 125 female and 125 male students attending primary school in the Birecik district of Şanlıurfa in the 2018-2019 academic year. In order to collect data; "Personal Information Form", "Alabama Parental Behavior Scale" and "Conners Parent Rating Scale" were used. In the analysis of the data, t-test for unrelated samples, one-factor ANOVA, Mann Whitney U test and Pearson Simple Linear Correlation analyzes were used. The findings show that behavioral problems in children vary according to gender, educational status of parents, and the family environment of their parents in their childhood. Negative correlation between mothers' caring and positive parenting behaviors and children's behavioral problems; Positive correlations were observed between poor parental follow-up, inconsistent discipline and beating behavior and children's behavioral problems. Negative correlation between fathers' caring behavior and children's behavioral problems; Positive correlation between poor parental monitoring, inconsistent discipline and beating behavior and children's behavioral problems; It was observed that there was no significant relationship between positive parenting behavior and children's behavioral problems. In addition, when the differences between the parenting behaviors of the mothers and fathers were examined, it was observed that the mothers had higher average scores in the desired parenting behaviors, while no difference was observed in terms of their children's perceptions of behavioral problems. Keywords: Children, Behavior Problems, Parental Behavior.
