Comparison of the education activity given with the support of the video and breastfeeding simulator to mothers staying at the mother's hotel, WHO cannot breast

In this study it was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of breastfeeding training by video and simulators for supporting breastfeeding mothers, staying at the mother's hotel, who are away from the non-term and intensive care unit babies. For this purpose, randomized controlled pretest-posttest control group trial model was used.The study was performed in between June 2022 and March 2023 in Bitlis State Hospital Mother Hotel affiliated to the Bitlis Provincial Health Directorate. Breastfeeding volunteer mothers (n=111) participated to the stduy and participants were divided in to three gorups as follows; Control group (n=37), Video group (n=37), Simulator group (n=37) in a randomized controlled manner. Study was completed with a total of 100 participants (Control:33, Video:33, Simulator:34 respectively).Data was collected by sociodemographic questionnaire, attitudes and levels of knowledge about breastfeeding form, breastfeeding self-efficacy scale (short form) and maternal attachment scale. During the study pretest, posttest and retest were applied to the participant mothers. At the beginning of the study all groups were subjected to pretest. The mothers in the Control group were not subjected to training after the pre-test application, and the post-test was applied 1 month after following the pre-test. Video group was trained with an educational video prepared by researcher based on knowledge, motivation, behavioral skills (IMB) model. After the training, posttest was applied to the Video group mothers and re-test was applied 1 month after the posttest. Further, simulator group mothers were subjected to a breastfeeding simulator education based on IMB model after pretest and post test for Simulator mother group was applied at the end of the education. Re-test for the Simulator group mothers was performed 1 month after. Data analysed by SPSS 21.0 programme and performed at 95% confidence level. According to our results, pre-test scores of all groups did not show a statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Data homogeneity was observed. Post-training breastfeeding self-efficacy posttest averages of groups were presented as follows: Video group; 57.21±9.24, Simulator group; 63.38±5.19, Control group; 57.09±9.04. Re-test averages were evaluated as: Video group; 62.91±6.37 and Simulator group; 66.44±3.88 respectively. Maternal attachment post-test averages were estimated as: Video group; 84.4±7.82, Simulator group; 92.62±4.92, Control group; 90.36±7.01. Re-test averages of groups were slightly higher than the posttest and represented as Video group; 91.88±8.47, Simulator group; 94.88±6.18. The post-test averages of the knowledge level and attitude towards breastfeeding were figured out as: Video group; 12.39±1.17, Simulator group; 13.82±.46 and Control group 10.48±1.48. Re-test averages for this variable were evaluated as for Video group; 12.45±1.09, Simulator group; 13.91±.38. In accordance with our results we indicated in this study that simulator education was more effective than video method on breastfeeding success, breastfeeding self-efficacy perception, maternal attachment and breastfeeding attitude and knowledge level.
