The effect of the mother psycho-education program on the emotional literacy skills of mothers

The main objective of this study is to develope a certain emotional literacy program and analyse the effect of this particular program upon the emotional literacy skills of mothers within the scope of this program. The study group of the survey consists of the mothers whose kids between 3 and 6 attend to an independent kindergarten in Denizli, Turkey. Paired design, one of the semi-experimental designs, was used in the study.The effectiveness of the program has been inspected through a particular sampling that consists of pretest-posttest design; the particular experiment process, 36 mothers in total blocked as placebo group (N=12), control group (3x2) (N=12), and the experiment group (N=12). After the execution of the program, the interviews with the focus group members have been verified to determine the views of the participants upon the program. Throughout the study, the particular data has been collected through the personal information form generated by the researcher, the Emotional Literacy Scale developed by Palancı and other scientists and the semi-conducted interview form developed by the researcher. Data were analyzed with the Wilcoxon Signed-Row Test and the Kruskal Wallis-H test. According to the indications reached, there exists a significant differentiation between the pretest and posttest results of the experiment group, and this difference is in countenance of the posttest. No significant difference was found between the pretest and posttest emotional literacy scores of the control and placebo groups. No significant difference was found between the posttest emotional literacy scores of the experimental, placebo and control groups. Along the focus grup interviews, it has been observed that the views of participants on the experiment process has been rather positive, and that they have communicated their gains upon their personal and parental developments. Those particular findings discovered through the experiment have been closely discussed and particular suggestions have been proposed to further researchers and practitioners.
