Mothers' expectations related with self-care skills from 60-66 months girl and boy children

The aim of the study is that determining whether there are difference about the expectations of mothers for self-care abilities of girl and boy children who are 60- 66 months old. Also, intended showing the situation of the expressing of these abilities in their life of institution and house according to the sex of children and studying the expectations of mothers for self-care abilities in regard to the sex of children by comparing the expectations. In the study, the mixed method used. The group of search consists of 60-66 months old 30 girls, 30 boys, totally 60 children that continue the independent kindergartens in Muş town Hasköy province at 2018-2019 academic year and their mothers. In the quantitative part of the study, the surveys, that are formed as appropriate to articles of "The scale of Preschool Self-Care Abilities" which is developed by Ayşe Çetinkaya (2012), are used as data collection. The survey which is formed to determine children's self- care abilities in experience of institution is filled up by teachers. The survey that is formed to determine children's self- care abilities in home is filled up by mothers. The researcher interview with mothers face to face to understand the expectations of mothers for self-care abilities of their children, these interviews are made as two section. In the first section, the instruction that includes "Does a 5 years old girl do………….?" question is directed to mothers. With the instruction, they are expected to give answer to articles of survey. From this section, the data that includes expectation of mothers for girls are collected. After two weeks, the second section is made with same process for boys by giving instructions. In analyze of quantitative data, the chi-square difference test is used. In the qualitativepart of search, it is aimed that thesearching of mothers' expectations that are for their children's self-care abilities in terms of sex. According to data results of quantitative study, 4 mothers who show the biggest differences between sex are taken to working group. In order to determine the causes of different expectations of mothers, a semi- structured form is created. For the analyze of datas, depictive and content analyze are used. According to result of study, differences are determined. In terms of regularity, mothers are expecting the results which are in support of girls when they are compared with boys. At the same time, there are some determined differences between behaviors of boys' and girls' self-care abilities in houses and institutions. In the interviews, the expectations of mothers for regularity ability show difference according to sex and their statements are studied in terms of gender.The reasons behind the expectations are based on "lacking of regularity in terms of boys", "having desire for regularity in terms of girls", "taking mothers as role model by girls", "being a negative role model in terms of father"," cleaning home is a duty for women" and " not expecting the regularity from boys".
