Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between emotion regulation skills of preschool children and mothers' containing function characteristics. The research sample consists of the mothers of 340 children aged 3-6 who are attending preschool education in private and public kindergartens under the Ministry of National Education in İzmit district of Kocaeli province. This study was conducted using the relational survey model, one of the quantitative research methods. This study was conducted with the relational survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. 'Parent Child Containing Function Scale' developed by Zabcı, Erol, and Şimşek (2018), 'Emotion Regulation Checklist developed by Shields and Cicchetti (1997) and adapted into Turkish by Batum and Yağmurlu (2007), and 'Demographic Information Form' were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the study, it was revealed that emotion regulation skills of preschool children did not differ according to age, gender, mother's education level, mother's employment status, number of siblings, parents' being together/divorced, duration of receiving preschool education, birth order. According to Welch ANOVA results, a significant difference was found between the groups at a level close to the limit in terms of socioeconomic status in the Lability/Negativity sub-dimension. Pearson correlation analysis was applied to examine the relationship between emotion regulation skills of preschool children and mothers' containing function characteristics. No statistically significant difference was found between the general dimension of emotion regulation and mothers' containing function. There is a significant difference between the general dimension of the emotion regulation scale and the 'uncovered relationship' sub-dimension of the aontaining functioning scale. There is a low level relationship between the lability/negativity sub-dimension of the emotion regulation scale and the 'relationship with spouse' sub-dimension of the containing functioning scale. Key Words:Emotion regulation, Emotion regulation skills, Conatining function, Preschool period
