Determination of postnatal mothers' needs about baby care

Özet (EN)

This study was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the information-needs of mothers about infant care. The study was included 150 mothers who agreed to participate in the study and taken from two institutions between August 2011 and April 2011. A questionnaire prepared by the researcher was applied via face to face interviews with mothers. The data were assessed via percentage distribution and the dependency between variables were analyzed with chi-square test.Mothers stated that they need information mostly about the time of starting solid foods (42,7%) in nutrition subject, nose and eye care (36%) in skin care and cleaning subject, the effects of relatives? visit on the baby, the time of this visits and their relationship with the baby (42%) in comfort subject. Mothers also noted that they most need the information about screening tests in newborn period (66,7%) and growth and development of infant in follow-up periods.According to the results, it was recommended that nurses should give planned and written information to mothers about infant care starting from the beginning of their pregnancies.Keywords: Mother, infant care, information need
