The investigation of the relation between prosocial behaviors and attitudes of mothers and prosocial behaviors of preschoolers

The social life of mothers affects the way their children's social lives and behaviors are shaped. Prosocial skills are also included among these behaviors and shape the behaviors of the child depending on the mother's attitudes. In this direction, this study aims to examine the effects of the mother's prosocial behaviors and attitudes on the child's prosocial behaviors. For this purpose, the "Demographic Information Form", the "Child Prosociallness Scale (Mother and Teacher Form)" and the "Adult Prosocialness Scale" and the Parental Attitudes toward Child Rearing Scale - Form A" were used. The sample of the research consisted of 204 preschool children attending independent kindergartens and official preschool classes in Bayburt Province in the 2019-2020 academic year, and mothers and teachers of these children. Since the prosocial behavior scores in the study by using the correlational survey model showed a normal distribution, the "Independent Sample t-Test" and "One Way Anova" parametric tests were conducted. In order to determine the relation between prosocial behaviors of the preschoolers and prosocial behaviors of their mothers besides the relation between mother's attitudes and prosocial behaviors of their children, "Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient" was determined. The research findings showed that there was no correlation between the prosocial behaviours of the preschoolers and the by child gender mother questionnaire, whereas it differed on behalf of the girls in the teacher questionnaire. According to the correlation analysis carried out, there was a positive relation between the prosocial behaviors of mothers and the prosocial behaviors of their children. It was also determined that the children whose mothers adopted democratic attitudes had better prosocial behaviors.
