Determination of information requirements of mothers with regard to taking care of their premature babies who have stayed in the intensive care unit

Abstract (EN)
This study has been conducted in order to determine the information requirements of mothers regarding to taking care of their premature babies who have stayed in Gazi University Health Research and Implementation Centre, Newborn Intensive Care Unit. For this study, the margin of error has been estimated as ? 0.05 and power has been estimated as 81%. The sample of this study was 80 mothers with premature babies. A questionnaire prepared by the researcher was used for data collection. The questionnaire was applied via face to face interviews with mothers. SPSS 15.0 software has been used for the evaluation of the data. The data has been evaluated by numbers and percentile.In accordance with the findings of the study, the information requirement of mothers is 82.5% regarding their babies? general body care, 60.0% regarding nutrition, 83.8% regarding health care. The information requirement of mothers is 86.3% regarding health problems, 65.0% regarding taking/evaluating baby?s temperature, 62.5% regarding room temperature, 45.0% baby?s clothing. The information requirement of mothers is 46.3% regarding sleeping routines, and 42.5% regarding welcoming the guests. The suggestion of this study in line with these outcomes is the planning of nursing training for mothers with premature babies in accordance with the care requirements of their babies before the discharge and the implementation of such interventions.Key Words: premature, mother, information requirement, nursing care
