Abstract (EN)

Musca domestica L.) POPULATIONS FROM KUMLUCA-ANTALYA Gökhan ERDOGAN MSc Thesis in Biology Supervisor: Assoc.Professor Hüseyin CETİN May 2017, 60+XI pages Kumluca is an important center of agriculture and greenhouse of Turkey. In this district, pesticides are used in a very high proportion especially for agricultural and public health pests. Since deltamethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide, has been used in Kumluca against agriculture and public health pests, the aim of this thesis to determine the resistance levels of houseflies (Musca domestica L.) to deltamethrin. Field populations of house flies were collected by using sweep nets from livestock farms in Güzören, Balçıklı, Mavikent, Yeşilköy and Adrasan locations between June and November 2015. The localities in each area were more than five km apart from each other and dispersal of house flies between the populations was not expected to occur. The collected flies were transported in fine muslin cages (30×30×30 cm) including cube sugar and wettedcotton pads to the laboratory, within four to six hours. The populations were reared at 24 ± 2° C and 40±10% relative humidity with a 12:12 photoperiod in the laboratory. F2 strain was used for determination of resistance levels. In this study different doses of deltamethrin were used for the determination of lethal doses (LD) and knock down times (KT). In order to determine KT, the flies were examined at for 1 hour at 5 minute intervals and affected flies recorded. All tests were repeated three times, including the control group. After 24 h, the number of dead flies was recorded and the percent mortalities and percent knock down rates were compared using the SPSS analysis program. LD50 and LD90 values and KT50 and KT90 values were determined using a probit analysis program. Resistance factor, RF, was calculated by division of the determined LD50 by the standard WHO sensitive reference LD50. According to the results of this study, high resistance was found in areas where agricultural and greenhouse were high, while in the areas where agriculture was relatively low, resistance was detected in the moderate level to deltamethrin. Resistance studies in the region should be continued and studies for solving the resistance problem should be carried.
