Determation of structural situation of rainbow trout farming enterprises operating in Antalya province

This study mainly investigates to determine structural situations of Rainbow Trout Farms installed on the land in Antalya Province. 61 of 82 active enterprises were evaluated by data obtained through questionnaire. According to the results, establishment of rainbow trout enterprises in Antalya province concentrates in the 1991-1995. 88.3% of those enterprises are currently running at full production capacity. 50% of active enterprises are suitable for capacity building projects. Lack of water and land come to the fore among the most important reasons for preventing capacity building projects. The current output of 32.2% of enterprises in Antalya province are 10-20 tons/year, 2.2% 30-49 tons/year, 30.5% less than 10 tons/year, 3.4% 50-99 tons/year and 1.7% over 100 tons/year. 62.3% of enterprises are family-owned businesses and equity capital ratio is 74.6% for the establishment of business. 45.8% of enterprises operating in Antalya have land ownership.Although 18% of enterprises do not employ fisheries and aquaculture engineer, 57.9% provide consultancy service. Fisheries and aquaculture engineers experienced in the sector compose 48.5% of consultants. Enterprises provide 97.1% of consultancy service for fish diseases. 83.9% of the enterprises are uninsured.Considering the occurrence of hatcheries in 52.4% of the enterprises, 52.3% of the enterprises are self-sufficient for egg and fry production. 91.6% of the water used in the hatcheries is spring water. Milking broodstocks commences mostly in November and terminates in February. For the enterprises having hatcheries, success rate for hatching is between 45.7%-70-80% and survival rate for fries is between 35.9% -70-80%. 17.1% of the businesses sell only egg and 46.2% sell merely fry fish.70.5% of the enterprises operating in Antalya in concrete ponds and 9.8% in the rivers through cage culture. 50.8% of the enterprises? product range are combined, 21.3% portioned, 21.3% fry-portioned and 1.6% fry fish. 62.3% of the water used in aquaculture is spring water and water temperature is 13-15 C in 44.3% of the enterprises. However, the flow of both spring waters and rivers is approximately 40.7% and 10-50 L/s. 64.4% of the enterprises do not perform any physical and 93.4% any chemical measurements. In enterprises, mortality mostly arises from fish diseases and this rate for fish fry of 0.3 to 5 g in weight is 70%. Enterprises owners mostly try to overcome the disease problem by their own efforts.
