Examination of export oriented cut flower production and export structure Antalya province

ABSTRACT EXAMINATION OF EXPORT ORIENTED CUT FLOWER PRODUCTION AND EXPORT STRUCTURE IN ANTALYA PROVINCE Yavuz TAŞCIO?LU Master of Science Thesis, Department of Agricultural Economics Adviser: Asst Prof. Dr. Cengiz SAYIN May 2003, 112 Pages Production and exportation of cut flowers are quite new with progress. Therefore, these activities have potential to contribute for either agricultural production or export; this subject is found worthy to research. In this study, enterprises for exportation and production of cut flowers are examined and the structure of export has been tried to put forward in Antalya Province. With this aim, contained of research are evaluated in terms of production, marketing and structure of foreign trade and application of contract growing by doing survey with producers. According to research results, 123 companies are exporting cut flowers in Turkey and, all of them are registered to Union of Antalya Cut Flowers Exporters. Whilst 70 of these companies are in Antalya which has high export density, 80 % of export is doing in this province. According to research, production cut flowers are faced with some problems. The most important are from them; materials of production are dependence on other countries, density of sole kind of production and lack of experienced employees. Problems of marketing cut flowers are dependence on one market and one species and high cost of airline transportation. Also 68 producers get benefit from government subsidies for encouragement to export and contract growing in research field and 85,3 % of these producers have seen to be pleased with these applicatioa KEY WORDS: Cut Flower, Government Subsidies, Antalya, Contract Growing, Export, Export Return Payments, Auction COMMITTEE: Asst.
