Archeolohical map of the central Antalya and localization problems

Antalya is a wealthy city in terms of its archeological background and archeological elements. There are so many archeological remnants dating back from prehistoric period to Ottoman Period. The city hosted three regions during Ancient Period. These regions are Lycia, Pamphylia and Pisidia. In this thesis, archeological elements of Antalya City Center within the borders of Pamphylia Region have been discussed. These elements are: cities, small settlements and other finding spots. In the first chapter, general history of Pamphylia Region, political and physical characteristics of the region establishing the borders of the study, transmissions of the antique resources and modern studies about the region have been addressed in order to comprehend the following chapters. Especially Hellenistic and Roman periods have discussed in the general history chapter. In the chapter named Location, Borders and Topography; Kepez, Konyaaltı and Muratpaşa which are the districts that the study covers have been discussed. Ancient resources and modern studies have the characteristics of a guide in this thesis study. The second chapter of the thesis includes all the ancient elements take part in the borders of Antalya City Center. These elements have been vii mentioned under two main headings as settlements and other foundlings. In the settlements chapter, the settlements whose certain localization can be detected and ones cannot be detected have been discussed. In the third chapter, the localizations which take part in the city center but whose localization did not become definite have been mentioned. In consideration of the references belong to antique resources and the new comments brought by modern studies, Olbia, Mygdalis, Masoura and Korykos settlements have been evaluated.
