Abstract (EN)
In this study, first, candles and torches are discussed briefly; since when and how they are used. After this, oil lamps are discussed in a wider aspect about their historical development, techniques, decorations, inscriptions and their trade. In addition date and usage of other lighting tools are discussed such as candelabrum, lykhnoukhoi and laterna. In another section similar lamps is divided into types and studied in detail. Moreover decorations on the shoulder and discus of the lamps in the catalogue is examined together with their sealing features. The catalog is the last part of the study. This study also contains a catalogue of a group of 39 oil lamps relevant to the subject selected from among 400 oil lamps found in Antalya Museum; these oil lamps are either bought, confiscated or donated to the museum. Catalogue is divided into two sections; mold-made and wheel-made oil lamps. Each of these oil lamps are catalogued in detail showing their clay colour, decoration, preservation status and similar examples along with their drawings and photos. The earliest lamps in the catalogue are dated from the 2nd to 3rd century AD. end the latest examples are from the 7th to 8th century AD. Keywords: Antalya Museum, Late Antiquity, Ceramic, Lamp
