Biochemical polymorphism of hair goats in Antalya region

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Ziya FTRAT June 2000, 57 pages The main purpose of this research is to study the biochemistry polymorphism structure of hair goats in the Antalya region. lOcc blood samples (in antiquagulant tubes) were taken randomly from 188 goats in nine distinct hair goats' flocks in Doyran and Feslikan high plateaus of Antalya. Potassium level determination was carried out using atomic absorption spectrometer in the University of Akdeniz Central Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture. The separation of serum transferrin and hemolizat hemoglobin types was carried out using the horizontal starch-gel electrophoresis in the University of Uludağ Animal Feeding Laboratory of Faculty of Agriculture. As a result of this research, three transferrin gene alleles (Tf\ Tf3, Tr) and two hemoglobin gene alleles (HbA, HBB) were determined. Transferrin and hemoglobin allel gene frequencies were respectively; Tf^O.62, if =037, Tf=0.01; HbM).785, HbB=0.215. The whole blood potassium concentration less than 16 mEq/1 was called lower potassium concentration (LK), over the same level was called higher potassium concentration (HK). The gene frequency for the lower potassium (KL) was 0.163 and the gene frequency for the higher potassium (KH) was 0.947. The result of this research was in agreement with the Hardy- Weinberg rule for transferrin polymorphism, but it was not in agreement with the Hardy-Weinberg rule for hemoglobin polymorhism.
