Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this thesis is the technical and ri tualistic examination of some of the miniature hydria findings that have been discovered during the excavations at the Ancient City of Antandros in 2006 20062 at Dereboyu (now named Sur Sector). A short historical frame given for Antandros from the late 8 th century BC to our day in the first chapter. It has been understood that the city was inhabited in 2 nd millenium BC in the light of studies of the 2018 excavation season which are not yet published. The identities and histories of the inhabitants is discus sed as well. On the other hand, detailed information about the research and studies which began with the discove r y of Antandros in 19 th century is given. The Dereboyu I II sectors where the miniature hydriai were found are i ntroduced and information about architectural and ceramic remains in the area in the second chapter. Miniature hydriai are examined by typology and technically evaluated. The chronological sequences and functions of the miniature hydriai and other findings which were understood to be use d between 4 th and 2 nd century BC are determined by classification and comparative analysis. In the third chapter, especially the contentious section about the nature and composition of the sanctuary where the hydriai were found is included and facts such a s oikos and baitylos are emphasised. Furthermore, the identity issues of the sanctuary is referred and data on the cults of gods and goddesses particularly Demeter, Artemis, Apollon, Kybele and Zeus which were worshipped at Antandros. The relationship betw een cults and politics and guiding effect of the religion is addressed. Lastly, an interpretive approach is attempted about the place and area of use of hydriai in the Greek World by also giving examples from Antandros.
