Abstract (EN)
In this study; synthesis, characterization and applications of boron compounds with antibacterial properties on ceramics were investigated. Silver Nitrate (AgNO3), Copper Nitrate Cu(NO3)2.3H2O, Zinc Nitrate Zn (NO3)2.6H2O and Disodium Tetraborate Decahydrate (Borax) (Na2B4O7.10 H2O) were provided from the market for synthesis Silver Borate, Copper Borate and Zinc Borate Compounds. In addition, raw ceramics and glaze materials were provided from Matel Hammadde San. Tic. A.Ş Serel in Manisa. The borates were synthesized by reacting the nitrate salts and the borax which prepared in the aqueous medium. Reactions were occured in the reflux reactor by changing the 4 different parameters of temperature, mole ratio, time and mixing speed. Properties of the synthesized products were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X Ray Specttroscopy (EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), UV Visible Absorption (UV-VIS) and Inductive Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy (ICP-OES). Then, the synthesized borate compounds were added to different pieces of raw glaze obtained from Serel Seramik A.Ş., applied to the pieces of ceramics prepared in 1x1 cm dimensions and baked in a certain temperature regime. The baked ceramic fragments were examined for their antibacterial properties by staphylococcus aureus (Escherichia coli) - Escherichia coli (E.c) bacteria cultivation at the Department of Biology of Polatlı Faculty of Science and Letters, in Gazi University. According to the results obtained; Borate Compounds are syntesized Nitrate / Borax molar ratio 2/1 and at 90 °C at optimum condition. The ceramic fragments exhibited antibacterial properties.
