Abstract (EN)

Ionic liquids are salt compounds showing some interesting properties such as low melting point, low vapor pressure, high solvency and high thermal stability. Potential applications of ionic liquids are almost unlimited because of their infinite combination possibilites. Ionic liquids were modified with various functional groups in order to obtain anti-bacterial property and thus new derivatives of ionic liquids were synthesized. Anti-bacterial efficiencies of this synthesized ionic liquids were studied against different bacteria species having distinct cellular and membrane structures such as Acinetobacter baumannii (gram negative), Escherichia coli (gram negative), Klebsiella neumoniae (gram negative), Staphylococous aureus (gram positive) and Enterococcus faecalis (gram positive). There were studies that combines saturated alkyl halides with imidazole and amin compounds in order to synthesize the ionic liquids having anti-bacterial property but ionic liquids containing unsaturated alkyl or phenyl groups on their cations wasn't found. Besides, effects of functional groups on anti-bacterial property wasn't studied in detail. In the scope of this thesis study, ionic liquids having anti-bacterial property were synthesized by using unsaturated alkyl or phenyl halides and pyrrolidine compounds having functional groups such as methyl and hydroxyethyl. Anti-bacterial efficiency of these synthesized ionic liquids and effects of functional groups on anti-bacterial efficiency were also studied in a comprehensive manner.
