Abstract (EN)
Diabetes is a metabolic disease that occurs in the absence or incomplete functioning of insulin hormones. Although it is known that approximately 387 million people worldwide have diabetes, metformin is one of the most effective and important active ingredients used in the treatment of this disease. Metformin is one of the most common active ingredients used in the treatment because it dissolves well in water and gives positive results in the treatment of diabetes. However, it is also one of the most common pharmaceutical pollutants in water since 52% of it is excreted in the human body with urine without dissolving. The mixing of these pollutants into water adversely affects the ecosystem, community and environmental health. Nano-metal oxides, which are the topics of this thesis study, are developing rapidly and arouse interest and curiosity with their different usage areas. Their large porous structures, very small size, physical and chemical properties are attracting increasing interest for study, research and investigation. In this thesis study, calcium oxide (CaO) from group 2A, aluminum oxide (Al2O3) from group 3A, tin oxide (SnO2) from group 4A nano metal oxides were synthesized. In order to remove antidiabetic drug active substance metformin from aqueous solutions, adsorption method, which is the easiest, low cost and high efficiency separation process, was used. In the thesis study, adsorption of metformin with synthesized nano-metal oxides was investigated using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), which is known for providing effective and reliable results in the pharmaceutical industry. Temperature, initial concentration, pH, and amount of adsorbent were investigated as parameters affecting adsorption. Adsorption isotherm, adsorption kinetics and adsorption thermodynamic were evaluated with the findings of the study.
