Özet (EN)
Bouleuteria are the meeting and discussion places of city councils that were being elected through a democratic system in ancient world. Classical city councils were not only significant buildings in regards of architectural history, but also for social life of ancient antiquity. The intention of thesis is to collect all information and study about conservation concerning Classical bouleuteria based on a single sample in Metropolis. This study consists of two major sections: in the first section the examples of bouleuteria in Turkey, Greece and Italy will be represented in detail. The study based principally on the western part of Asia Minor and it concentrates on the planning, setting, capacity, flooring and identification of classical buildings. All the bouleuteria in Asia Minor were typologically classified under linear, circular, curved and odeion types. In the second section a detailed survey has been made to the newly discovered bouleuterion at Metropolis, especially through its structural characteristics and problems of conservation. As a result of this, proper restoration and reconstruction projects reflecting the actual situation of today?s ruined bouleuterion were made out. Thus it was possible to assume that architecture of this building had common features as the ones at Miletus, Priene and Heracleia am Latmus where the excavations revealed very well-preserved bouleuteria. In conclusion it could be presumed that the bouleuterion at Metropolis was inspired by the construction systems and urban planning of other major Ionian cities. This building was exclusive among the other bouleuteria in terms of its building material and workmanship as well as its manifoldness, possessing various types of plans in its structure. Thus bouleuterion of Metropolis is a significant example of Classical city council houses for the detailed future study of ancient Ionian architecture, social history and archaeology with its architectural, epigraphical, ceramic and sculptural finds.
