Slave and their profession in Ancient Roma

Slavery, by definition, is the deprivation of liberty of people and making them the property of others. The establishment of slavery is as old as human history. This institution, which we encounter in all ancient societies, took its place in Roman society in the most special way. Slaves emerged as the economic power of Rome, which was an agricultural state. Rome was an agricultural state and the economic power of this state was mainly slaves. Slaves also served in areas such as public, entertainment, and law enforcement. In our dissertation, it has been tried to examine the slaves and the professions of the slaves in the Roman civilization with their general titles. In this context, mainly philological sources and archaeological findings were used. In our thesis, it has also been tried to reveal the social, economic, and cultural structure of Rome through slavery. Keywords: Roman Civilization, Slavery, Professions, Economy, Social Life
