8.SUMMARYTHE RELATİONSHİP OF THE NEPHROTOXİCİTY LEVEL OF THEANTİNEOPLASTİC DRUGS WİTH NATRİURETİC PEPTİDESIntroduction and aimThe nephrotoxicity of antineoplastic chemotherapy drugs is well known for manyyears. This nephrotoxicity varies from mild serum creatinine level elevation to end stagekidney failure depending on the type and dosage of the drug. Biochemical markers areneeded to detect the nephrotoxicity due to chemotherapy drugs before it occurs. In somestudies it?s been reported that ANP-BNP levels increase in cases such as kidney failurewhere intravascular volume is increased. This study is performed to investigate therelationship between plasma ANP-BNP levels and nephrotoxicity due to chemotherapy.Patients and methodThirty patients medicated with antineoplastic agents which are known to havenephrotoxic side effects and a control group consisting of ten healthy people were involvedin this study. 17 of the patients were males (%57) and 13 females with a median age of 44.Patients with clinical findings such as edema, polyuria, oliguria and hypertension beforechemotherapy were excluded. Cisplatin, cyclophosphamide, doxorubicine and high dose ofcytosine arabinoside applied patients were involved. Four cures of treatment were given toeach patient. Renal function tests, plasma ANP-BNP levels both in patient and controlgroups were evaluated before and after treatment.FindingsBefore treatment there was no significant statistical difference between the patientand control groups in terms of renal function tests and plasma ANP-BNP levels. However,through out the repeating cures decrease in GFR and increase in urine protein/creatinineratio occured which were statistically significant.47ConsequencePlasma ANP-BNP levels are found to be high in patients treated with nephrotoxicantineoplastic drugs. The evaluation of these parameters may be useful to detect thenephrotoxicity before it occurs and may be helpful in the follow-ups as well.Key WordsAntineoplastic drugs, nephrotoxicity, ANP,BNP48
