Abstract (EN)

Chitosan gel is widely used as an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent. Helichrysum pamphylicum, which is an endemic plant for the flora of Turkey, is very rich in phenolic compounds, especially in flavanoids and phloroglucinol derivatives, like other plant species from the Helichrysum genus. Many physiological effects of phenolic compounds are known, including properties such as antioxidant, antitumor, anti inflammatory and antimicrobial effects. In this thesis, a chitosan-based gel formulation containing methanol extract obtained from the aerial parts of Helichrysum pamphylicum Davis et Kupicha was successfully prepared and characterized. According to the antioxidant activity results the prepared formulation showed significant DPPH free radical sweeper, ABTS●+ cation decolorizing and metal chelating antioxidant activity, while weak reducing antioxidant potential. It was determined using the HET-CAM method that chitosan gel and H. Pamphylicum methanol extract showed strong anti inflammatory effect with synergistic effect. In conclusion, in this study, it can be said that chitosan-based gels containing Helichrysum pamphylicum methanol extract, which can be used in both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory treatment, were successfully formulated and characterized.
