Abstract (EN)

Idioms, which are an indispensable part of daily life and art of literature, increase a language's power of expression, conceptual richness and beauty. The lifestyle, traditions, beliefs, development on science and technology of a community reflect the language of that community. Idioms, which are stereotyped word groups occupy an imporant place in the concept of language. Idioms are used for to express things clearly and to make the language colorful.In this study, the researches made in the past on idioms in the world and especially in Russia and Turkey are given. The status of the comperative investigations on Russian and Turkish idioms which took place in Russia and Turkey are also given. As a result, it is understood that a bilingual dictionary of idioms has been prepared on the above mentioned field of study.The idioms which are included in the 11 short stories of the important, succesful and well-known writer of Russian literature, Anton Pavlovich Chehov are being analysed in terms of meaning, subject and structure. Also, the author's preferences on the idioms have also been revealed.
