Synthesis of anthocyanins

Anthocyanin and Flavonoids are widely distributed natural product in plants. Many anthocyanins show biological activities such as antimicrobial, anticancer and antioxidant properties. They play important roles in growing and developent of plants. Despite of the wide occurance and biological importance of anthocyanins, synthetic efforts towards efficient preparation of this group of natural products are rarely reported.Anthocyanins were recently isolated from plants family respectively.In this study, these naturally occuring anthocyanins were synthesized starting from benzaldehyde and acetophenones via aldole condensation.Key Words: Anthocyanins, Flavonoids, Antioxidant.
