Abstract (EN)
This study addresses the subject of using monumental cultural properties with a new function in particular of museum function. The study object is to define the approach towards the use of cultural properties as museum. To this end, a framework is set up, which scrutinizes the subject of functioning as museum with regard to cultural property-museum-user relationships. In this framework, the thesis includes scrutinizing the method, which is developed by integrating information groups related to physical environment-human relationships and monumental cultural property-museum function into the subject of use with new function, in the sample study area. In this regard, a method, which is carried out with user participation, is presented towards determining problems in the example of Ibrahim Pasha Palace, which maintains its use as the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum. Results obtained are scrutinized in an institutional framework by determining the characteristics of cultural property remaining behind the function with the constructed method, and principles for the approach towards functioning Ibrahim Pasha Palace in Istanbul as museum are constituted.The research results put forward the necessity for developing an approach intended for presenting characteristics owned by cultural property to the society in studies for use with new function. This research contributes to studies for use with new function with its approach that contains scrutinizing the problem of the function getting ahead of unique characteristics of cultural property over the user and using user reactions as the data aimed at solving the problem.
