Effect of the resveratrol at kidney injury due to ischemia reperfusion during aortic surgery

Abstract (EN)
Multiple organ damage due to ischemic reperfusion in aortic surgery has still been an important problem. Ischemic process locally causes damages on muscles and vessel, on the other hand reperfusion phase occuring after maintaining the circulation again causes local and systemic damages. The systemic effects are seen primarily at heart, lungs, brain, GIS, and kidneys. The renal damage seen after aortic surgery generates serious mortality and morbidity. Resveratrol, is a poliphenolic compound having known antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antiapoptotic properties. In this study, we aimed to study the effects of resveratrol on I/R damage on kidneys occured after occlusion and reperfusion of infrarenal abdominal aorta of rats.In this study Winstar albino rats were used, the subjects were divided into 4 groups and in each group there were 8 subjects. The groups were planned as; group 1: sham group, group 2: Control group; ischemia and reperfusion occuring as a result of clemping infrarenal abdominal aorta, group 3: Low dose resveratrol (40 mg/day) + I/R group, group 4: High dose resveratrol (60 mg/day) + I/R group. Biochemical parameters such as Cystatin-C, BUN, urea, creatinin, MDA, TNF- ?, SOD, GSHpx, MDA in kidney tissue, TNF- ?, SOD, GSHpx were measured in blood. Kidney was examined histopathologically. As a result plazma Cystatin-C, BUN, urea, creatinin, MDA values of I/R group were statistically significantly higher than control group, and values of resveratrol were statistically significantly lower than I/R groups. There was no statistically significant difference at blood TNF- ? values between groups, on the other hand in renal tissue these values were significantly increased in I/R group. SOD, GSHpx activities on blood and tissue samples of I/R group were statistically significantly decreased compared to control group, they were increased in resveratrol groups compared to I/R groups. No significant differences were observed between groups in histopathological examinations.In conclusion; in our experimental study that we had planned to examine the beneficial effects of resveratrol on renal ischemia and reperfusion injury caused by aortic clemping; we observed statistically significant favourable results especially on biochemical parameters. But we think that larger experimental studies forming injury due to aortic clemping at histopathological level, will provide much more benefits in the assesment of the effects of resveratrol on renal I/R injury.
