Abstract (EN)
The aim of this descriptive study was to determine dıffıcultıes experienced by patients after appendectomy. The study was carried out in General Surgical Clinics of Gazi University Health Research and Practice Centre in Ankara with 60 patients. The data collection questionnaires consists of two sections was developed by the researcher based on a literature approach. Questionnaires were applicated to the patients on day of discharge by face to face and tele-follow up visits on postoperative 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th weeks. Descriptive statistical methods(mean, standard deviation, median, 1st and 3rd quartile value), frequency distribution (number, percentage), Mann Whitney U and Friedman tests were used in evaluating the data. According to the results of the study, it was found that the patients had difficulties in the parameters of pain, nutrition, daily activity, movement, social life, sleep and body image.According to the results obtained from the study, patients who underwent open appendectomy surgery experience more postoperative difficulties compared to the laparoscopic method and the level of difficulties experienced by the patients gradually decrease.In line with the results of the research, it is recommended to follow up the patients by phone and to provide counseling after discharge in order to prevent the difficulties that the patients may experience.
