Abstract (EN)

Keywords: Steel beam, impact load, aramid fiber When the loads carried by steel structural elements are examined, it is seen that they can be subjected to the effects of static and dynamic loads. Loads with static character are defined as loads distributed over time. It is possible to define dynamic character loads as instantaneous loads. Materials that exhibit high strength under static loads can suddenly break when subjected to dynamic loading with an acceleration. Today, the increasing number of terrorist attacks shows how important it is to design strategically important structures against impacts. From this point, it shows the necessity of strengthening the structural elements in order to prevent a structural member from collapsing against a sudden loading and to be able to evacuate the structure safely. Ductility, which can be expressed as susceptibility to deformation, is an important feature for each structural element. Since dynamic and static loads are of different character, the deformation capacities under these loads and their energy damping levels, in other words, their toughness will be different. Different methods are used to measure dynamic toughness. One of these methods is the weight reduction method. In this study, the behavior of a steel beam as a structural element under dynamic load impact load after strengthening with aramid fiber was investigated experimentally by weight reduction method.
