Durr al-Fu'âd and Sheikh al-Irshâd of Arapgirli Ali Baba Rûmî (Analysis, critical text, index)

Ali Baba Rûmî, who is thought to have lived in the second half of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century, is a sheikh belonging to the Qâdirî order. Durr al-fu'âd and sheikh al-irshâd, completed by the author in 1321/1903-1904, is a voluminous work that is articulated with the nasihat-nâme tradition in terms of its language and style, although its sufistic content predominates. There are two copies of the work, one with 601 pages and the other with 674 pages. The author states that he wrote his work by receiving spiritual inspiration from Abdülkâdir-i Geylânî, Muhyiddin ibnü'l-Arabî and Eşrefoğlu Rûmî. The main parts of the work, consisting of approximately 9500 couplets, were written in masnavi verse. In addition to this, many poems written in different verse forms and genres related to the subjects covered are also included in the work. The main topics in Durr al-fu'âd are as follows: Sequences of sects, corrupt creeds of Hurufis and Babis, wrong opinions of some people about al-Mahdi, the fact that jahri dhikr is right, the situation of various communities that deviate from the right path, criticism of some books containing erroneous information about Abdülkâdir-i Geylânî, falsification of the works of Abdülkâdir-i Geylânî and Ibn al-Arabî. These are discussed in an advisory manner. Aiming to convey the content to his addressees in the shortest way, the poet preferred a plain language that they could understand; stayed away from artistic expression. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the life and literary personality of Arapgirli Ali Baba Rûmî, about whom there is no information in biographical sources, as well as to present the transcripted text and analysis of his work Durr al-fu'âd and sheikh al-irshâd for the benefit of researchers. For this purpose, first of all, general information about the type of nasihat-name was given, then the life and literary personality of the poet was revealed based on his work. The work has been analyzed in terms of form and content. The transcripted text created from the two existing copies is presented. Under the heading of additions, there is an index, examples from the manuscripts and photographs of some of the places mentioned in the work.
