Abstract (EN)

The layout conformity of total 13.43 km2 settling areas in Küçükçekmece-Sefaköy has beenresearched before by Yıldız Technical University Department of Civil Engineering /Geotechnics Division (Özaydın et al., 2002). Within the context of this thesis, one and twodimensional dynamic behaviour analyses are made using some evidences obtained from theprevious studies made in the investigation area, from the south to the north of the researcharea, on six cross-sections taken in the west-east direction, to determine the changes of thesurface movements occuring during earthquakes. Consequently, effect of local soil conditionson the earthquake movement is examined; the difference between the one and twodimensional dynamic analyses is displayed.One dimensional analyses are made by the program EERA which is based on equivalentlinear analysis principal, two dimensional dynamic analyses are made by PLAXIS. Viscosedamping parameters, which are the most effective on the results of two dimensional dynamicbehaviour analyses, are determined by two different methods and the effects of these on theresults are examined. 475 year repetition period synthetic acceleration records used as thebedrock motion representing possible stanbul earthquake in dynamic analyses are producedby Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute, taking theseismicity of the area into consideration, by using the program TARSCTHS. The results ofthe analyses show that the properties of surface motion differ according to varying local soilconditions and land topography.Keywords: Küçükçekmece, dynamic response analysis, Plaxis, EERAx
