Concept of citizenship in Arendt's politics

Politics, for Hannah Arendt, is the sole activity that makes the human life worth living. Actors of this activity are the citizens. This work examines the idea of citizenship in the political theory of Hannah Arendt. Citizen in the Arendtian paradigm, is who actively participates in politics, reveal his differences in the public realm and who has a say in the future of the world. Arendt encourages the citizens to take on responsibility for the world and establish the common dwelling space. In this context, Arendt criticizes the political power for dominating the citizens using violence as an instrument. This work, therefore, aims to study the related concepts, which form a congruent framework in Arendt's idea of citizenship. Thus, her understanding of the citizenship will be traced through the concepts of politics, public space, violence, political power, freedom and totalitarianism.
