Abstract (EN)

In the first chapter of this study, nonlinear loads and their harmonics are investigated, then the mathematical formulation is given. In the second chapter, harmonic sources are analyzed, later arc furnace and the analysis that is the main subject of this thesis are studied in detai. Nonlinear loads in power systems produce harmonic currents and voltages, because of nonlinear current-voltage characteristics. One of the loads creating harmonics is arc furnace. The current that arc furnace draws from power system is at random. That is because the load changes and the phases are charged unsteady, continuously. As a result of this, the way form of current and voltage deviates from s'n form. These changes in the current and voltage characteristics cause harmonics. In the fourth chapter, the analyzing and measuring of the arc furnace harmonics are considered and the analyzing of harmonics losses is submitted. Numerical applications for two different systems containing arc furnace are submitted and the results are discussed.
