Abstract (EN)

In archaeological areas, after the excavations the immovable cultural heritage exposed to enviromental conditions and human activity. In archaeological areas, protection interventions have been developed for immovable finding remain. In order to ensure the sustainability of these interventions, presentation arrangements for visitors are also implemented. Protection structures are designed to protect structures containing sensitive materials such as mudbrick, mosaic and wall painting. Another intervention to the structures whose architectural elements have been damaged or have not reached to present day is integration. For the presentation of structures; entrance spaces and service structure, walking route and platform, information units are designed. Anastilosis which can be defined as combining architectural fragments in a dispersed state; it is another intervention to the effective presentation of the structures to the visitors. The aim of the study is to evaluate these interventions in archaeological areas. In this study, national and international approoaches in the conservation of archaeological sites are studied in order to form the theoretical framework. The evaluation criterias were determined as a result of this study. After the theoretical study, the restoration interventions in the ancient city of Metropolis, in Torbalı İzmir, which was chosen as an example was examined. This study is concluded with general evaluation about interventions to the preservation and conservation of architectural remains in the ancient city of Metropolis.
