Archaeological restoration proposals for preservation of archaeological heritage: Case of Metropolis's acropolis the east gate and its surroundings

Archaeological restoration proposals are being developed for the survival and presentation of archaeological heritage sites. Suggestions prepared in line with the principles determined by international statutes and regulations change and take shape in line with the approaches to the structure and its immediate surroundings. Within the scope of the thesis work carried out, an archaeological restoration proposal was prepared for the Eastern Gate of the Acropolis of the Ancient City of Metropolis. The intervention techniques of the building were determined by reading and evaluating the values of the building and the intervention principles together. In terms of presentation, understanding and protection of archaeological heritage sites, structures such as the East Gate, which are determined in ancient cities, can turn into a focal point and increase the awareness of heritage sites. The multi-layered feature of the East Gate, the aesthetics of the ruins, its critical location in the city and the fact that its original part is scattered around show that the building has a serious potential for anastylosis. The proposal was evaluated in all its aspects; It includes the analysis of the building and its surroundings, a detailed restitution study, and the restoration proposal prepared with the intervention techniques determined in line with the principles. The identity of the building was tried to be understood through the survey and restitution; The previous restoration practices in archaeological heritage sites were evaluated comparatively and the scientificity and applicability of the proposed interventions were discussed. As a result, an anastylosis proposal has been prepared in which the East Gate can survive with all these features.
