Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, Arnold Schönberg's Op. 4 Verklärte Nacht and Op. 21 Pierrot Lunaire primarily, a study based on understanding, explaining and analyzing the composer's perspective on tradition and innovation and his approach to tradition-innovation relationship was conducted in some of his other works. In the first part, an explanation is given on the purpose, method and limitations of this study. In the second part, the relations of tradition and innovation in Arnold Schönberg's life and some of his works are examined. In the third part, Schönberg's Op. 4 Verklärte Nacht and Op. 21 Pierrot Lunaire's forms and motif analysis of works were examined, explanations were made and interpreted in the context of tradition-innovation relations. With this study, it is aimed to get to know Arnold Schönberg better, to understand his works and to encourage his works, who is not well known in our country and whose performance is seldom preferred.
