Abstract (EN)

A comprehensive examination of the art of jewelry-making, which has existed for thousands of years within the master-apprentice tradition, and the lack of sufficient knowledge in this field have laid the groundwork for this study. The 40,000-year history of jewelry and the 6,000-year journey of jewelry-making have reached us today. Throughout history, spiritual beliefs, folklore, economics, philosophy, and art movements have influenced jewelry, and the culture of jewelry has diversified and enriched alongside the historical development of humanity. The art of jewelry-making, established in the historical journey of jewelry, encompasses the crafting of jewelry and decorative objects from precious metals and gemstones. Jewelry and gems have been a part of various art movements throughout history, evolving and persevering in accordance with the characteristics of each era, up to the present day. This study focuses on the role of jewelry within the context of Art Deco art. Art Deco art emerged in the 1920s and remained popular until the late 1930s, encompassing various art forms, including jewelry design. Originating in Paris in the 1920s, Art Deco brought together diverse artistic forms, creating a colorful and rich aesthetic through lavish and geometric shapes, as well as the use of materials like colored glass and marble. Art Deco has been widely employed globally in various fields such as architecture, furniture, crafts, graphic design, wearable accessories, and jewelry design. Particularly, Art Deco jewelry design gained prominence during the 1920s and 1930s. Art Deco jewelry presents a modern and elegant appearance with highly functional designs. These jewelry designs reinterpret the aesthetics of classical antiquities to form a modern interpretation. Art Deco jewelry draws inspiration from cultural movements like instrumental, jazz, and other popular music styles. Due to the influence of contemporary technology, Art Deco jewelry incorporates various materials such as metals, glass, and plastic. Geometric shapes, lines, contrasting colors, and the fusion of diverse materials define Art Deco jewelry. Art Deco jewelry designs reflect the distinctive style of Art Deco and cater to the modern and luxurious needs of their time. Renowned designers worldwide have also embraced Art Deco jewelry design. These designers have reflected the contemporary and modern aspects of the Art Deco style by utilizing different materials and techniques. Art Deco jewelry offers a modern and elegant appearance and remains popular to this day.
