Art Nouveau stylization in the art movement and its effects on shoe design

Abstract (EN)

The Art Nouveau art movement is also called the New Art. It is an art discipline that started in England between 1890-1910 and spread in Europe and America, using floral patterns and decorations that manifest themselves mainly in architecture, decoration, glass object design, posters and various surface areas. In the first part of the thesis, the most prominent styles used in the art movement were evaluated, considering the historical development of the Art Nouveau art movement. Herbal abstractions, female figure, animal and insect stylizations are explained with examples and the effects of Art Nouveau movement in the field of architecture, painting, sculpture, graphics, decoration, fashion clothing and accessory design are examined. Regarding the Art Nouveau movement in the world, England, America, France, Belgium, Germany, Russia and the works in which the movement was felt most intensely in the Ottoman Period were cited as examples. In the second part of the thesis, a brief history of shoe design and sections of the shoe are included. In this section, the concept of stylization in the Art Nouveau art movement and the ways in which artists abstract nature and transfer methods to designs are tried to be analyzed. In this context, shoe designs in the period when the art movement emerged were evaluated, the stylization effects in the saya and heel sections were examined and examples of the works of the shoe designers of the period were given. In the process up to the these days, the relationship between the stylization effects of the Art Nouveau art movement towards shoe design has been investigated chronologically. In the last section, the preparation process of the shoe collection is conveyed and presented in relation to the subject. In the collection, Art Nouveau period architectural building details, base and heel part; insect forms were stylized and used in saya sections. The collection of evening shoes prepared within the scope of the thesis is designed and produced by preferring high hand workmanship. Keywords: Art Nouveau, Stylization, Shoes, Fashion, Accessories
