The investigation of factors related to performance and functional performance of the shoulder in long term after the artroscopic rotator cuff repair

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to compare shoulder functional performance, proprioception, functional status, total upper extremity muscle strength, range of motion, scapular endurance, scapular dyskinesia, postural stability, spinal posture and mobility with healthy individuals in patients who had undergone arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and to investigate the relationship between these factors and shoulder performance. In this study, 32 patients with at least postoperative 12 week who had undergone dominant side arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were included in the study group and 32 healthy subjects were included in the control group. Sociodemographic information and medical history of the individuals, functional performance of the shoulder, proprioception sensation, functional status of the shoulder, total upper extremity muscle strength, range of motion, scapular endurance, presence of scapular dyskinesia, postural stability, spinal posture and mobility was evaluated by using the evaluation form, FIT-HaNSA test, angle repetition test, Modified Constant Murley Score, Jamar hand dynamometer, universal goniometer, scapular muscle endurance test, observational scapular dyskinesia test, functional reach test and spinal mouse device. It found that the study group compared to control group had worse shoulder functional performance, had negatively affected shoulder proprioception and functional status, had decreased total upper extremity muscle strength and range of motion, had weaken postural stability, had increased thoracic kyphosis and lumbal lordosis (p<0,05). Scapular dyskinesia rate was higher in the study group compared to the control group (p<0,05), but the scapular endurance was similar (p>0,05). The strongest variables on the functional performance of the shoulder were the muscle strength of the dominant side and the strenght subparameter of the Modified Constant Murley Score (p<0,05). In this study, it found that the patients with arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery had low shoulder functional performance compared to healthy individuals in the long term and were associated with total upper extremity muscle strength, scapular endurance, total value of the Modified Constant Murley score, evaluating the shoulder functional status and strength parameters (p<0,05).
