Political, socio-economic and cultural structure of Artuqids

By ruling more than three centuries over the region called as Jazeera, Artuqids established three emirates and constructed a peaceful and prosperous administration despite the unending political turmoil of the mentioned geography. By embracing a policy prioritizing political compromise and balance, they ensured peoples of the region live in peace and thus made them contribute considerably to the economical, cultural and artistic production of these territories, and led them to leave an unerasable heritage. Leaps toward increasing economic prosperity of people such as abolition of heavy taxes, increase in the number of accommodation facilities through maintaining the order and safety of trade routes, bazaars and fairs, construction and improvement of cities, reinforcements for international trade and domestic production precipitated a regional economic revival and provided a basis for the region to gain importance as a commercial center. It can be observed through the architectural and artistic works that Artuqids intensively inspired from Byzantine and other Anatolian civilizations and transferred Great Seljukid cultural basin to eastern and southeastern Anatolian soil. Notwithstanding these interactions it can be undoubtedly said that Artuqids accomplished to form a classicism of their own by managing to develop an idiosyncratic style in their artistic and architectural production.
