Early Bronze Age pottery of Aşaği Salat Höyük

ABSTRACTAnalysis of the pottery recovered from T/26 trench, levels IV-VI andburial ground have been carried out within this study named ?Early BronzeAge Pottery of Aşağı Salat Höyük?. The pottery of Aşağı Salat Höyük wascompared with the parallels from the other sites located in Anatolia andNorthern Mesopotamia and it has been recognized that the site was settledduring the Early Bronze Age. The socio-cultural structure of the site wasconsidered within this frame.Analysis of the pottery indicated that layer VI is dated to transitionperiod between Late Chalcolithic and Early Bronze Age and burial groundbegan to be used during this period. Following level VI, level V and IV aredated to earlier period of Early Bronze Age. It has been recognized thatAşağı Salat Höyük, which has close relations with the Euphrates and AmuqPlain cultures, was one of the small settlements located in the periphery ofthe larger sites. The location of the Aşağı Salat on crucial passage on theTigris River indicates that the site was possibly a station, which began to besettled in Ubaid period and flourished during Uruk Period and witnessed theemergence of stratified society based on agricultural economy during theEarly Bronze Age.
