Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study was to investigate the possible genotoxic effects of donepezil hydrochloride, which used as inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, by determining in vitro schromosome aberration (CA) and micronucleus (MN) tests in human peripheral lymphocytes. The cells were treated with 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1, and 2 ?g/ml Donepezil HCl for 24 h for CA and 48 h MN treatment periods.In this study highest three dose of Donepezil HCl significantly increased both percentage of abnormal cells and chromosomal abnormalities than the both two control groups, all doses significantly increased the frequency of micronuclei. Depending on the application of Donepezil HCl chromatid fracture, chromosome fracture and fragment formation were found.
