Analysis of Aşık Mahzuni Şerif's folk songs in terms of root values and their usability in Turkish language education

This thesis investigates the fundamental values present in the songs of Âşık Mahzuni Şerif and explores how the findings from these songs can be utilized in Turkish language education. Âşık Mahzuni Şerif, as a significant representative of Turkish folk literature and music, embeds profound social and cultural messages in his works. This study focuses on the core values in Mahzuni's songs and examines the educational potential of these values. The introduction section provides general information about Âşık Mahzuni Şerif's life, art, and social impact. The aim, scope, and method of the research are explained, emphasizing the importance of the study. The place of Mahzuni's art within Turkish folk music and literature is examined, focusing on his life, artistic development, and the general characteristics of his works. Additionally, the significance and impact of Mahzuni's works in folk culture are discussed. The concept of fundamental values is explained, and how these values are reflected in Mahzuni's songs is analyzed. Universal values such as love for humanity, tolerance, justice, honesty, and benevolence, as well as values and social norms specific to Turkish culture, are examined. Examples selected from Mahzuni's works are analyzed in detail to reveal how these values are addressed. The thesis discusses how Mahzuni's songs can be used in Turkish language education. Mahzuni's use of language, simple and clear Turkish, educational messages, and the potential to convey fundamental values to younger generations are evaluated. Suggestions are presented on how Mahzuni's works can be used in Turkish language lessons to develop language skills, support values education, and transmit cultural heritage. In conclusion, a general assessment of the research findings is provided, emphasizing the importance of Âşık Mahzuni Şerif's works in Turkish education and the preservation of fundamental values. It is noted that these works can be used as educational material, offering significant contributions to language education and values education. Moreover, this study is expected to shed light on future research on Turkish language education and the preservation of cultural values.
