Turkish Painting Art that in Westerner sense, starts with landscape pictures. Nature views, especially forest pictures are the most common issues. Among city views, especially Istanbul landscape pictures are the most common. The informations are found that in research the beginning of Turkish Painting, it orients to investigate about military painters. This is caused by the military painters give the first examples of the Turkish Painting Art.The westernize movements of the Ottoman State, as a result of the new regulations in the army, this process has started with technical drawings and topographical course until today and has continued to improve. In the period of Ottoman Sultan III. Selim, The opening of the Mühendishane-i Berri-i Humayun and Mühendishane-i Bahri-i Humayun schools and the including the painting courses to their curriculum are become a very big step, and the first representatives of our painting art are trained in this school. The civilian schools follow to this westernize movements, and some of them were also include the picture lessons in to curriculum.Through the light of knowledge above, the aim of this study is search of the effects of the military artists on Turkish Painting and Graphic Arts. Research has been carried through by the help of general search models.Research has been studied into two chapters. In the first chapter of the study, is trying to give answers for the questions that How the Turkish Pictorial Art begins?, Who the leaders were? and How it evolves?. However, the innovation movements in the military schools which are in the structure of Turkish Military and the introduction of modern painting art has been searched.One of the consequences is the new military arrangement built up new schools by the lead of westernization. Another consequence is the Military Officers educated in these schools, had art education basicly strategic purposeful, as a result they had new skills and interests about art; and consequently soldier artists appeared as a new phenomenon in world literature.In the second chapter of the study, explanation of the identity, lives and works of the leaders of painting art that special to west, by westernization movement since the last period of Ottoman, and their assistance to Turkish Painting Art in chronologically. A new phenomenon has been shaped by the Westernization behaviour of Turkish Military, addition the painting lessons to Turkish Military Education Programme and leading of military painters who went to Europe for education by the encouragement of the palace. By time unmilitary schools followed the military schools, then painting art that in Westerner sense has been carried to present day. A military artist group, was studying painting art in the architectural buildings that were icons of Ottoman identity in the geographical structure of İstanbul, was formed. However, military artist generation, was not dealing with just painting art, they also deal with sculpture, composition, illusion, caricature (cartoon).Keywords: Soldier, Painter, Ottomans, Turkish, Fine Arts, Graphic Arts
