To determine levels of psychological hardiness and burnout in nurses who work in military hospitals

A descriptive research was done with the aim of determining the levels of psychological hardiness and burnout in nurses who work in military hospitals. Research was established universe of 650 nurses, working for Gulhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara between March 1 2011 to April 1 2011. 519 nurses were included research who agreed to participate research and complete the survey form at his own request after being informed by the researcher. Chi-square, the arithmetic mean, median and percentile calculations were used for statistical analysis of the data. According to research findings, age, marital status and educational status were found to be effective in socio-demographic features. (p<0.05) Choosing the profession willingly, wanting to make the profession and total working time were found to be associated with burnout. (p<0.05) In socio-demographic features; marital status, educational status and monthly income were found effective on psychological hardiness. Affecting occupational features found were wanting to make profession and total working time. Nurses' perceptions of occupational stress level and health status proved to be significant for the both scale. (p<0.05) It was found to be an inverse relationship between psychological hadiness and burnout, comparing the results of both scales. Suggestions were made according to the results from the research.
