Effects of sodium nitroprusside applications on the germination of vine seeds

Abstract (EN)
In order to eliminate dormancy in seeds and ensure germination, they need to undergo some pre-sowing procedures. For this purpose, processes such as stratification, steeping, hormone applications, chemical and mechanical abrasion, elution, keeping in the dark are used. Recently, various studies have been carried out on the effect of Sodium Nitroprusside (SNP-nitric oxide donor). In this study; it was aimed to determine the germination capabilities of Vitis labrusca L. cultivars and the effect of SNP treatment on seed germination. In the study, the seed of five Vitis labrusca L. cultivars (Rizessi, Rizpem, Ülkemiz, Çeliksu and Rizellim), Alphonse Lavallée and 5 BB (V. berlandieri x V. riparia) and 60 days of stratification (1. Control), 1000 ppm GA3 (2. Control), the SNP's doses of 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 and 3000 ppm were used. In the study, seed viability (%), germination rate (%), emergence rate (%), seedling length (cm) and node number of seedlings were determined. The trial was carried out as 3 replications and 50 cores per replication in the split plots experimental design. Variance analysis were performed and LSD (0.05) test was used to compare means. As a result of the study, the seed viability ranged from 94.3% (5BB) to 77.4% (Rizpem). According to statistical evaluations, germination, emergence, length and node number of seedlings varied between varieties, application doses and variety x application interaction. 5 BB rootstock in terms of emergence (85%) and plant size (6.9 cm); Alphonse Lavallée was at the forefront in terms of node number (3.3). 1500, 2000 and 3000 ppm SNP doses shared the first place in terms of emergence, while plant size (4.6 cm) and node number (2.54 units) were found to be higher at 3000 ppm. In Vitis labrusca varieties, the emergence rate was determined between 81.2% (Rizessi) and 32.9% (Rizpem); plant size ranged from 4.8 cm (Rizessi) to 2.4 cm (Rizpem); the node number ranged from 2.4 (Rizessi) to 1.4 (Rizpem). Doses of 1500 and 3000 ppm SNP treatments ranked first in terms of all the characteristics. The SNP doses of 2000 and 3000 ppm had superior values than conventional stratification and GA3 treatments.
