Abstract (EN)

In the present, the petroleum reservoir that is used as fuel source is reported to be used up in the near future. Besides, due to recent petroleum crises and targeted exhaust emission reduction to the regulated limits, alternative engine fuel research derived scientist to find new and non-petroleum energy sources. Since the vegetable oil obtained from their seeds have the similar engine performance and emissions values to the petroleum based fuel, they came up as an alternative to diesel fuel.In this study, safflower oil methyl ester was obtained from safflower seeds by the transesterification process and the obtained biofuel was mixed with normal diesel fuel by volume of 5%(B5), 20%(B20) and 50%(B50), then the physical and chemical properties were identified.He obtained B5, B20, B50 fuel blends and standard diesel fuel were tested in a single cylinder diesel engine to experimentally research and compare the engine performance and exhaust emission results of biofuels with standard diesel fuel.Keywords: Diesel Engine, Safflower Oil Methyl Ester, Biofuels, Performance, Emissions
