The internalization of social sex and sex roles in terms of Patriarchal System, Çelik, Özlem, MA Thesis, Supervisor: Belma Tokuroğlu, 152 PagesIn addition to the existence of a gender understanding in every period in which there is a social life, this existing understanding gained new forms as a result of changes in social dynamics such as production methods. While sex accounts for the biological aspect of being male or female, gender accounts for the meanings that the society and the culture attributes to being male or female. The term gender is a form in which the social one contributes to the division of individuals at biological as male or female and the term gender states a process. While gender is existing in every society in a way with the affect of the different components of cultures, in addition to gaining a universal quality, was being shaped by male politics of patriarchy. Patriarchal structure was improving the institutions of inheritance, property, family and marriage as an part of system and as an element of permanence, at the same time regulated the male and female roles in this term. The characterization of power authority and management as male by the patriarchal structure made the female secondary in the social hierarchy. The secondary position of female was supported by the prejudices of sex and sexual attitude and judgments. The female?s gaining various rights in the society started as a result of improvements that created some social transformations such as the industrial revolution. Industrial revolution has been a brink in the female history in terms of the female?s being a part of the production as a result of the need for work force and causing improvements such as payment of female labor. Females were left without the basic rights such as; being active in social production, participating the public administration, having the right to decide on their own property, utilizing the basic rights of education and physical enjoyments by their own will throughout civilization history. The sexual discrimination, maintained by the patriarchal system for centuries, succeeded to survive by means of externalizing the female from the production process. The new production method, emerged as a result of The Industrial Revolution, changed some patriarchal principals by introducing the female to the work life.
